Janey is part of a vibrant artistic community and offers informal and instructive painting workshops at all levels in classes of between one and six individuals.
Janey passes on her own passion for art in her courses, alluding to influences as diverse as Odilon Redon and Cecil Collins, with whom she has a particular affinity, having studied with Jeremy Gale. While Janey does not follow a particular teaching agenda, she encourages a hands on approach, often starting with the hand grinding of inks before moving on to working with with Chinese brushes and Reed Pens. Other approaches include stressing the balance of feminine and masculine forms, mark making, tonal and colour studies:
"It's all about giving the student the tools to develop their own technique," says Janey, "I let my students learn at their own pace. In this way an artist can develop their own free expression and the art does not become inhibited."
Courses
Courses run according to the seasons, mirroring the school terms. Janey also offers evening courses between 6pm and 9pm and intensive 1-2 day courses for half terms and holidays. Life Drawing and outbound landscape painting are taught as and when models are available and the weather permits. Janey focuses on Oil Painting, Watercolour, Drawing, Gouache and Acrylic and Collage.
